About Disability East
Disability East (the East of England Disability Information Network) is a consortium of disability organisations in the Eastern Region of England. We have combined to create a regional voice, together with a network of services for disabled people, by sharing our knowledge and expertise. Disability Essex (the Essex Disabled People's Association Ltd) is a founder member of the Disability East consortium.
We anticipate that some form of regional administration is likely and are already reflecting this new, regional dimension in shared, regional, projects with our Eastern Region partner organisations. Achievements to date include a research project commissioned by GO East (Government Office) in 2004 to report on the structures and developments of demand affecting disability in the East of England.
Disability East's membership of COVER (Community and Voluntary Forum Eastern Region) enables us to maintain close links with other Voluntary Sector 'clusters' through organisations such as MENTER (Minority Ethnic Eastern Region) and Rural Action East.
We have a representative appointed to the East of England Regional Assembly, where our shared concerns and positive ideas about disability can be heard. When problems affecting service providers are identified, we have the resource amongst our wide membership, to find specific and expert advice.
